Who is ADVENT for?

We made ADVENT for riders who want reliable and trail-ready shifting with enough money left over for better tires, better suspension, or just better beer. 

Why 9 speed?

As mountain bike drivetrains add more speeds, the chains get narrower, and adjustment gets more and more finicky. Everything needs to be perfectly aligned just to work right. In the real world, that means more maintenance more often.

ADVENT is less particular. The 9 speed chain is wider, the cassette cogs are thicker, and the derailleur is easier to adjust. The whole system is designed for maximum durability with minimal maintenance.

ADVENT is focused on function first. That means: a bomber clutch mechanism that is repairable, rapid shifting response under load, and plenty of gear range for trail riding. It works so well that you can focus on riding and not mowing lawns to feed your habit.

What makes ADVENT awesome?

Unique Clutch Design

Most mountain bike derailleurs use a roller bearing clutch, which utilizes a friction sleeve around a one way bearing. This system is prone to losing tension. If you’ve owned a clutch derailleur, you’ve probably noticed that it gets less effective over time. It is also super hard to adjust.

ADVENT uses an innovative ratchet-and-pawl design, a technology that has been proven for years in hubs. It’s durable. It’s much resistant to losing tension, and you can readjust the clutch tension in under a minute with a screwdriver and a Torx wrench.

SHIFTER

Most shifters look the same on the outside, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts. The ADVENT shifter uses cartridge bearings in the lever mechanism for better feel and more precise shifts. 

DERAILLEUR

To make the shifting even smoother, the derailleur kinematics have been tuned to use a super direct cable path. This reduces friction and greatly improves shifter response. 

CASSETTE

Like all microSHIFT cassettes, ADVENT is made using a continuous forging process that results in extremely straight cogs and precisely shaped ramps for responsive shifting. It also features an intuitive gear spacing, so you can quickly find the right gear without double shifting. 

What chain and chainring should I use?

This is the beauty of 9 speed: the chains are all pretty standard. We’ve tested this group with every chain we could get our hands on, including many that aren’t available in the aftermarket. Some have nicer construction than others, but they all play nice with ADVENT. 

Same with chainrings. Just make sure you use something that’s compatible with 9 speed chains.
